Community Involvement

Personal Involvement
The Burr, Pilger & Mayer encourages employees, from staff to partners, to become involved as a community volunteer on an individual basis. Our staff has adopted two local elementary schools where they read to the students, write to our fax pals, judge essay contests and more. Additionally, they have participated in numerous sports challenges to raise money for a number of causes, answered phones in a local television pledge drive, and spread holiday cheer organizing gift drives for underprivileged children.

Our Annual Fundraiser
Each year on the San Francisco Giants Opening Night, we host a mega-fundraiser which supports a variety of charitable organizations. The fundraiser earns money through the sale of tickets to the Giants game and the pre-party that the Burr, Pilger & Mayer hosts before the game. We have had great success with the Giants Opener game & pre-party, and were able to raise over $18,000 at last year's event.

The BPM Foundation
In 1993, the firm founded the BPM Foundation. Since then we have given over $500,000 to local charities that we believe provide a crucial service to our community.

Scholarship Foundation
We have established scholarships to give others some of the opportunities we’ve enjoyed. Current scholarships go to one junior and one senior accounting student at Golden Gate University and to a small business participant in Leadership San Francisco.

BPM Day
In 1998, the firm launched our employee community volunteer program, Because People Matter Day. This is a program where the entire office closes down for one full day each year and the staff spends that time volunteering in our community. We work in teams to have fun and make a difference. After surveying our staff, we found that they not only experienced increased morale and enjoyed a great team building experience, but also felt a strong sense of accomplishment and increased pride in our community.

Assisting Nonprofits
Our Nonprofit Industry Group is committed to providing the nonprofit sector with quality services and essential information to ensure their success. We provide free ongoing seminars on a variety of topics, ranging from "How to Plan Successful Special Events" and "Tax Exempt Financing" to "Fiscal Duties and Responsibilities of Board Members" and "How to Build a Major Gifts Program." Additionally, nearly 10% of our clients are local nonprofit organizations.

The First Ten Years
To celebrate our ten-year anniversary in 1995, instead of throwing a party, we took a lead role in the San Francisco Food Bank’s Campaign for a new warehouse. We made our own contribution of $25,000 and embarked on a fundraising campaign to generate an additional $100,000. Additionally, our staff put in over 500 volunteer hours at the food bank. We made a difference and our tenth anniversary was celebrated at the new warehouse groundbreaking ceremony.
